Since fence coming later, first step was calling to get utilities marked before digging.
Using sod-cutter to remove grass from beds. What a beast - be sure to rent the 18" one not 12".
Once cut we simply roll and pick up sod pieces (most of the work actually).

Once beds made we had some trees we wanted to plant.
The chicken-wire is a temporary fence to protect new plants till the real fence goes in.
